One of our goals at Wallowa Lake Camp is to support God’s churches in fulfilling their missions. We also aim to support all God’s ministries and the agencies that support God’s ministries in this world. Here, we do this by being actively involved in our local church, Joseph United Methodist Church.
We’ve sat down with pastors to ask and listen to how our camps can help with their ministry. We encourage pastors and church staff to discuss with us how we can be an asset to their ministries!
We reach out to churches everywhere to encourage them to partner with us to organize and/or attend church family retreats, youth retreats, group retreats etc… which are known to benefit congregations. We also encourage pastors and church staff to take personal/professional retreats at camp to renew and rejuvenate.
Furthermore, people of all ages in all of our local faith community contexts are able to grow spiritually by volunteering at camp in fun ways, often learning new skills or sharing skills and expertise that they can take back home - or continue to hone at camp!
This coming summer we will once again have 3 youth horse camps. We reach out to churches to send young people to these camps, especially young people that would not normally be able to afford such camps and to use our financial scholarships if needed.
In the spirit of collaboration across our organizational partners, we are blessed to work with a long list of wonderful agencies including; the Nez Perce (Niimiipuu) Tribe, Nez Perce Fisheries, a number of colleges, Soroptomist, Fishtrap, Wallowa Music Alliance, Brass & Woodwinds @ Wallowa, the Village at Wallowa Lake, Red Horse, Backyard Gardens, many churches of many denominations, Tuesday Trekkers, Cascade Primetimers, Joseph House, and many more.
Finally, one of the most profound ways the collaboration between the the camp, the United Methodist Church, and the Nez Perce people occurred when the Oregon-Idaho Conference approved the return of a 1.5 acre parcel of prime riverfront land to the Nez Perce nation. (See that story here).
We are happy to say we have a great history of mutual support and engagement with our partners and love that people know us as having Open Doors, Open Hearts and Open Minds!
